The Best Dog Food for French Bulldogs (IMO).

For those of you looking for the quick answer, we feed our dogs Zignature in the Venison flavor. Below we'll explain why.

While they could not be cuter, Frenchies do have sensitive stomachs and are allergy prone. This is not a problem once you find the right food for your furry friend! Finding the right food can take some persistence, but remember that every pup is unique and what might work for us might not work for you.

We've tried Orijen, Taste of the Wild, and even a raw food diet. Unfortunately, these didn't work well for our pups. Most breeders have great results with Taste of the Wild and some swear by the results of a raw food diet, but neither worked for us. Taste of the Wild gave Blu allergies, while the raw food diet gave Ivy and Ava constant diarrhea and quite a few vomit episodes. We used to feed our Frenchie Canine Caviar, but they ran out of the venison flavor.

First let's discuss what is a limited-ingredient formula (LIF).

I recommended going with a limited ingredient formula (some call it limited ingredient diet). A limited ingredient formula is a simple diet that aims to minimize the food sensitivities some dogs have while maximizing the nutritional value they receive. Basically, it only contains the good stuff. Almost all French Bulldogs will be allergic to chicken, beef, and pork. Some are allergic to lamb, fish, and bison/buffalo. Ideally, you want to pick a protein that is not normally found in most dog foods. This means most breeds (specially Frenchies) haven't built an allergic reaction to the protein. You can go with venison, kangaroo (not available in CA), turkey, duck, goat, and guinea fowl.

Why we now use Zignature!

We used to give our Frenchies Canine Caviar, but due to the venison shortage we've realized Zignature usually has venison in stock. Their entire food lineup is LIF (Limited Ingredient Formula), free of potato and grain, while also receiving at least a 97% recommendation from users. Blu and the rest of our Frenchies absolutely love the food! Plates are always licked clean and the scratching has come to a complete stop. And as an added bonus, because of the LIF, their poop is smaller. You can also read what supplements, toys, and tools we currently use. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email us.
